A good Nights Sleep
Websters Buying Tips - Choosing the right Bed
Sleep Council

Back in 1988, a ground-breaking study by sleep expert Dr Chris Idzikowski found that swapping an uncomfortable old bed for a comfortable new one could account for an average of 42 minutes' extra sleep - four times that achieved by over the counter sleep aids.

So, if you need to improve the quality of your sleep, one of the most important things you need to do is to make sure you're sleeping on the right bed.

Choosing the Right Bed for You

Firstly, choosing a new bed is a long term investment you need to get right. Choosing the right bed is the difference between a good nights sleep and a restless one. If you are unsure if your bed is ready for replacing, as a general rule, if you wake up with aches and pains which disappear over the course of the day, you are not sleeping as well as you did a year ago or the mattress shows signs of wear, it is probably time to change your bed.

Give yourself plenty of time to look at each bed and try them out, and chat to the experienced staff at Websters about your specific requirements.

Wear lightweight clothing as a big chunky jacket will give you a false impression of how padded the bed actually is. Spend time making the right choice of bed - trying them out properly in store; assessing from previous experience the level of firmness/softness you like. Don't be afraid to ask to try the beds out, you may feel a little silly but it will be worth it to get the right bed.

Decide if you are able to turn a mattress regularly as most mattresses do need regularly turning to ensure even wear and tear and today's mattresses can be pretty heavy, so be careful! However, there are now plenty of non-turn options, which only need swiveling around from time to time, while others need to be turned only once or twice a year.

We always recommend you buy base and mattress together because the two are designed and manufactured to complement one another in terms of support. Your mattress may show visible signs of wear and tear but the base will have had equal pressure and strain - it just doesn't show quite so clearly. If you purchase from different manufacturers any warranty may be compromised if the manufacturer deems the base to be unsuitable to support the mattress or vice versa. Another point to watch is making sure the dimensions of any base and mattress separately sourced are compatible - two Kings might not be quite the same size!

Consider the size of bed you need, based on your needs and of course the size of you room. People don't buy large enough beds. 75% of all double beds are still the standard 4ft 6in/135cm wide double - yet this is plainly not room enough for two adults to sleep comfortably together without disturbing each other. Even upgrading to the next size, a 5ft/150cm king size, whilst it takes up very little extra bedroom space, makes a considerable difference!

One other important point to consider is access into your bedroom, discuss any difficult access issues with our sales person. There is always a solution, most of our divans come with split bases and our metal and some wooden frame beds are built at your home so are easier to deliver.
